Alleged truck theft leads to high speed chase in Washington

Posted by Steve Karimi | Jun 20, 2014 | 0 Comments

The West Seattle Bridge was the scene of a late evening head-on collision between a truck and a police vehicle. The crash, which may result in various felony charges against the driver, ended the high-speed car chase.

The head-on collision occurred when the truck exited Interstate 5, which was traveling at a high rate of speed before hitting the median on the West Seattle Bridge. The impact caused the truck to spin around until it was directly facing the oncoming traffic, including the police car that had been pursuing it. According to police, the female driver deliberately drove the truck directly into the approaching police car, resulting in a violent crash. After the collision, the female driver and the two passengers attempted to flee the scene on foot, but they were all captured and taken into custody shortly after the crash.

Sources indicate that the incident began when the Tukwila Police Department received a report that a truck had been allegedly stolen in the area near Southcenter Mall. Once a responding police officer spotted the truck, the female driver refused to pull over and led the officer on a high-speed chase on Interstate 5 heading north. The police officer involved in the crash was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of his injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

Preparing a defense for a felony criminal charge is a very serious matter. Individuals who have been accused by the police of committing a felony could benefit from a consultation with a lawyer working in the area of criminal law. An attorney may be able to help their clients to rebut police claims of wrong doing and highlight areas where police misconduct could render evidence against the defendant as inadmissible in court.
